Blogs

Blogs are a great way for someone to express their feelings about a particular topic. I have enjoyed the blogs very much this year and would like to continue writing blogs in my sophomore year of highschool. Everything about them is much more convienient. There is no print writing involved and the work is much more neat and clear to readers. I encourage you to continue the blogs for next year.

Bucket List

Many people think that before they die, they need to accomplish as many things as they can. To me, this is just a coping mechanism. If I knew when I was going to die, I would spend every moment enjoying and respecting life. If you knew you were going to die, why would you waste what time you have left on a cheap thrill? Some might say knowing the day of your death is terrible and cruel, but to me it’s a privilege. It gives you a chance to view life in a way you never thought possible. For those short moments, you see things nobody else can; the beauty, art, and prosperity of mankind. So for me, I would not want a bucket list. All I would want is the chance to create one.

Bullying

Bullying is a very sensitive topic. Many children and teens have experienced some type of bullying in their life. Sometimes bullying can occur unintentionally. Recently, Cyberbullying has been a big problem with teens. Once something is posted on the internet, it stays there. Though you may think you have erased it, there is always a way to recover it. A bully can be stopped simply by confronting him or going to an adult to handle the situation. Parents can check their child’s texts and internet pages to make sure there is nothing profane being spread. Most of the time, students will go to teachers for help. If a teacher is observing bullying going on in the classroom, they should talk to the student being harassed and help them with their problem. Bullying can be stopped with authority.

Talents

One of my talents is poker. As ridiculous as it sounds, I enjoy playing poker with my friends on the weekends. I feel I am decently good and could teach the class about the game and common strategies for it. My friends who play poker are also very talented at the game. The endless amount of tactics and statistics you can learn in this game are what attracts me to it. The excitement of winning a hand or even a game is what I think attracts most people to it (besides the money). Playing poker for fun is one of my hobbies I feel I excel at and hope to teach my kids one day.

Grammar

Proper grammar is an ability many fail to obtain. It allows you to be understandable and be a more proper person. There are many rules to follow in grammar, which makes learning it more difficult. I find myself having trouble with the correct uses of, “lie” and, “lay”. It is mix-ups like these that can dramatically affect your grammar. Speaking of, “affect”, other words people tend to mix up are, “affect” and, “effect”. For certain words like these, you need to memorize the proper uses and tenses. Although sometimes hard to achieve, proper grammar is something to strive for.

Personal Assistant

Steve Jobs would be an excellent assistant. It would be very interesting to work with someone with a mind as unique as his. The ideas of what he had in mind for the future of Apple could be endless. I would have Steve Jobs work on a new type of technology with me. We would create a special type of battery which would last for weeks on one charge. Although Apple has already patented an idea for a hydrogen battery, this battery would be made of a special type of substance to make it more safe and suitable for children. Steve Jobs is an american hero in the world of technology, which is why I would choose him to work with me on this project. Even after his tragic death, Jobs continues to inspire people to believe and create what is on their mind.

Alternate Ending

Juliet awoke before Romeo had the chance to kill himself. Afterwards, they agreed to never speak a word of what happened there. Nobody would ever find out what had happened to Paris and Juliet. They would escape to the place Romeo was forced to go to due to his banishment. Nothing would come between them for as long as they lived. They would go on to have many kids and the Montague name would prosper.

Childhood

My favorite childhood memory is when my father took me to see my first baseball game. I was about five years old and I can still smell the juicy hot-dogs and hear the roar of the crowd. Ever since then, I have been intrigued by the ball park and am excited every time I visit one. I hope that one day I can share this experience with my children also. It is one of my greatest memories of my lifetime and I will never forget it.

Dinner

Many people, places, and things inspire me. If I could invite any three individuals to a dinner party, I would invite Marshall Mathers, Bryan Cranston, and Ben Franklin. Marshall Mathers is one of my favorite rap artists. Although his profane lyrics and behavior may portray him as a corrupt human being, I believe its what makes him unique. “Breaking Bad” is one of my all-time favorite television shows. Starring Bryan Cranston, this series shows the struggles of life as we know it. Bryan has been nominated for many awards and is a phenomenal actor, which is why I would bring him to my dinner. Ben Franklin is an american hero, and I do not use the word “hero” lightly. I think it would be amazing to hear his stories and achievements directly from the man himself. These three human beings do not have a lot in common, except for their unbelievable talents. Although the dinner conversation between the three of them may be quite awkward, I would not have it any other way.

The menu would be Thanksgiving foods such as stuffing, mashed potatos, turkey, corn, and salad. This would be a very bizarre dinner to say the least.

Homelessness

Three things are necessary to survive in today’s modern world: food, shelter, and clothing. Unfortunately, there are those who cannot afford these necessities. I feel that homelessness is one of the world’s biggest problems because if everyone had these needs, there would be no more fighting. If everyone is content, there is no reason to complain. Although, those who are more fortunate give millions of dollars every year, it is not enough to completely abolish this problem. If homelessness were gone, world peace would be achieved.

Many people who feel homelessness is a major issue have opened homeless shelters and soup kitchens. The Covenant House is the biggest privately funded charity in the U.S. for providing food, shelter, medical care, and services to homeless, abandoned and runaway kids. They have saved over one million kids. Covenant House is currently a member of the NGO (Non-Government Organization). They have saved and changed the lives of many people and intend to continue these heroic acts.

If we were to give 1 million dollars to every homeless person on the planet, it would cost over 100 trillion dollars. We would need a way to broadcast this through the media to obtain worldwide donations. Realistically, we would not be able to raise 100 trillion dollars. This is why we would help educate the homeless so they could find jobs and provide for themselves. Finally, with the money we had after paying for education and broadcasting, we would open organizations and shelters around the world to feed and care for the homeless.

Obviously we will not be able to save all of the homeless alone, but working together there is a good chance we can. Every extra person we save is success for us. Imagine what our world would be like without homelessness. Hopefully, little by little we can abolish this tragedy. We need to keep helping and providing for the underprivileged and stay strong. Persistence is the answer to stopping homelessness.
